New producer joins agency
PCL is pleased to announce the addition of Michael Ross to our staff. Michael came on board as a surety bond producer in June 2008, with 24 years of experience in surety underwriting, production and agency management. With a degree in Economics from California State University at Northridge, Michael started his surety career as an underwriter on the west coast. He was the branch office manager for a major surety in Phoenix, and was promoted to home office underwriting manager. Moving to Dallas in 1992, he led the startup of a surety Managing General Agency. Following a brief stint in Austin with a regional surety, Michael and his family returned to Dallas, where he served as Senior Underwriter for RLI Insurance Company from 1996-2007, and more recently with Old Republic Surety Company.
Michael has earned several professional designations, the most significant being his AFSB (Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bonding, 1997). Although specializing in surety, he is also familiar with insurance and risk management, having earned his CPCU designation (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, 2002), ARM (Associate in Risk Management, 2006) and AIC (Associate in Claims, 2007).
Record Crowd attends PCL's 24th Annual Attitude Adjustment Party, June 7, 2008
PCL's staff was thrilled to welcome 206 clients, underwriters, and an assortment of friends, family, and business associates to the agency's 24th Annual Attitude Adjustment Party on Saturday, June 7. The event was held at the Cooke County home of Clem and Pauline Lesch near Valley View, Texas. To the best of our knowledge, no guests were blown away by the unusually strong winds, which tipped tables and chairs, buckled a tent pole and challenged golfers all day!

The CowChip Golf Classic got underway with an exciting shotgun start. Ricky Locke and Chuck Ashton (Independent Insurance Group) won the coveted golden cow chip awards with a score of 30. Subsequently, a protest was lodged and it was revealed that they did not have their scorecard properly attested. The awards were stripped from them and presented to the team of Phillip and Kevin Hoppman (Big D Metalworks) who completed the course with a score of 32. Never fear: Ricky has been Phil's insurance agent and frequent golf partner for many years, and all the shenanigans were in good fun.

Daughter-in-law Melissa Lesch and Jeff Smith (Lockheed Martin) came in 3rd, followed by Greg Rzewnicki (International Fidelity Insurance Company) and Michael Ross (Old Republic Surety). Tied for 5th were the teams of Gilbert White (Gilbert White Building and Renovation/Scott Hube (Great American Insurance Company), and Larry and Sandy Silverman (CFO4Life).
Other activities included swimming, basketball, foosball, pingpong, horseshoes, washer-toss, fishing, paddleboat, trampolines and the mega-swing.

Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Q from Denton catered, and once again got rave reviews. Fortunately the wind died down enough in the evening for the traditional bondfire (burning boxes and boxes full of expired bonds, old forms, and old files) and for Clem's fantastic fireworks.
Another wonderful event! Next year will be the 25th! Mark your calendars-June 6, 2009.
Thank you to Eric, Melissa and Blake Lesch, along with the entire PCL team-Steven Lewis, Pat Pinchback and Jennifer Crane-for all their help preparing for the event and helping to make it a fun day.

Steven Lewis joins PCL ownership group
May 2008
PCL's shareholders and employees are pleased to announce that Steven Lewis is now part of the agency's ownership group. Steven has been a valued member of the agency since he joined PCL in April 2003 as a Surety Bond Producer.
Steven started his surety career in 1989 in Tempe, Arizona, and moved to the Dallas area in 1993. Prior to joining PCL, Steven was a contract bond underwriter in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, working for several surety companies. This underwriting experience gives him an excellent perspective on agent-underwriter relationships, and on handling the needs of a wide variety of contractors.
